I have been making these cookies forever with the same recipe and everyone has always loved it! In the blog, I’ll take you through the steps in detail and talk about their origin! In the blog, I’ll show you the steps and chat about where it came from. But let me say again, this is one of the best recipes you’ll find. It’s simple, no long waits, and bakes to perfection!

History of Chocolate Chip Cookies

The invention of the chocolate chip cookie is often attributed to Ruth Wakefield, who, in the 1930s, added cut-up chocolate to her cookie dough thinking it would melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate bits retained their shape, giving birth to the classic chocolate chip cookie. Over the years, numerous variations have emerged, including double chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, white chocolate chip cookies, and more. Some recipes incorporate nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, for added texture and flavor.

Chocolate chip cookies are versatile as they can have different textures, ranging from soft and chewy to crispy and crunchy. Multiple factors influence the texture such as the type and amount of ingredients, as well as baking time and temperature. Most importantly, Chocolate chip cookies have become a symbol of homemade goodness and are often associated with family gatherings, holidays, and special occasions. They are now a tradition for my family on Christmas!

My thoughts + tips

I personally love dipping my cookies in warm milk and having a bite of the melting texture and flavours! It is important to follow the recipe and ingredients as close to the measurement as possible. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Freshly baked cookies have their essence. I believe that cookies taste best right after they are taken out of the oven!

Tips:

– Cream sugar and oil/butter as this method incorporates air into the batter, which results in softer cookies.

– Chill the dough for a few hours as cooking after chilling creates a dense, chewy texture.

– Use brown sugar as it melts into the cookie and makes it more flavorful and chewy.

– Remember to weigh the ingredients and keep the proportion of the ingredients constant as per the recipe.

– Take them out just a little before you think they can get the crunchy outer texture and gooey insides.

Cookies v/s Biscuits

One of the key differences is their origin and how they were created.

The term “cookie” comes from the Dutch word ‘Koekje,’ which means ‘little cake.’ Originally, these little cakes were made to check if the oven was at the right temperature before baking a real cake!

On the other hand, the term “biscuit” comes from the Latin words ‘bis’ (twice) and ‘coquere’ (cooked), meaning twice baked.

Another major difference is texture.

Simply put, cookies are soft while biscuits are crunchy.

In more detail, cookies are made from a soft, thick dough and are denser compared to biscuits. Once baked, cookies are larger, softer, and chunkier than biscuits. Biscuits are firmer, thinner, and fluffier than cookies and require a harder dough for the right texture.
